Technology Project
Technology is an important aspect of today's classroom. Students are more comfortable and accustomed to technology inside and outside of the classroom. Technology can make mathematics lessons more interactive and "hands-on" than they were in the past.
For my technology project, I used the website Geogebra, which is suitable for upper elementary through college level courses. This easy to manipulate website allowed me to create the activity Discovering Pi. In this activity, students learn how the concept of pi came to be. Using the tangible program, students are able to quickly calculate the perimeter of polygons with up to 250 sides by simply moving a slider. As the number of sides on the polygon increased, the closer the polygon would be to a circle. This concept of taking something we know and using it to help us find out something that is unknown is a great problem solving activity for students to use their analytical thinking skills to solve.
